The Propulsion system is a key part of the train as it makes the train run. The challenge is all about the multiplicity of platforms – light rail vehicles, hi-speed trains, and metros have different power requirements.
Moreover, there are multi-energy requirements for diesel, electric, combination or bi-mode. Additionally, there is a need to maintain weight requirements and the issue of interoperability between geographies.
This is all assessed and carried out in an environment of constant innovation, and in this spirit we need to design systems that work across a range of trains for each manufacturer.
The final product is designed and built by us with safety, cost, hardware standards, software standards, and long-term maintenance in mind – protecting the stock for anything up to 30 years. Once the work is complete and tested, we will be there to ensure it has a long life.
We can assist in all elements of mechanical, electrical and systems design. We have the capability to design everything, including the traction converter, auxiliary converter, hi-voltage, main energy systems and battery powered systems. Our in-depth knowledge is supported by our extensive understanding of testing and the regulations required to make sure the propulsion system a client seeks to design is second-to-none.
Our software standards are designed in compliance with EN 50657 and EN 50128.
